What my autoimmune patients say about me

I’ve been going to Milena with problems with my stomach over the past 4 months. Milena has done wonders for my health, I never felt so much better !!! Still working progress but nothing is done in a short time right !!! Milena knows her job inside and out which I never had from my local doctors or hospitals. Milena has put me on the right road to being normal which I haven’t had in years. I would highly recommend going to see Milena, she’s very easy to talk to and give you confidence to getting better.

I suffer from a chronic immune disease. I came to Milena interested in how a change in diet could further improve my symptoms plus my overall health. The advice given by Milena has helped improve my symptoms and also increase my energy throughout the day.

The benefits have been so noticeable that it has been easy to persevere with the changes to my diet.

Milena has changed the way I think about food and also improved several physical symptoms I was experiencing with her tailored plans. I feel so much more full of energy, and also better able to make wise decisions about what I am putting into my body. It has really been transformational for me.

I am really happy to have found Milena and I am looking forward to continuing the journey with her. I have Hashimoto disease and Milena is helping me manage nutrition to feel better. I have also lost some stubborn kgs in the last few months, which was a plus! Definitely recommended.

What is an autoimmune disease?

Your immune system is designed to protect your body’s healthy cell tissues by attacking any viruses, pathogens, bacteria, or diseases that enter your body. Autoimmune disease is a condition in which your immune system get confused and produces antibodies that attack your normal body tissues.

There are more than 80 types of autoimmune disease that affect a wide range of body parts. This attack can be related to many organs, for example in Hashimoto’s immune system attacks the thyroid.

Researchers aren’t sure yet what causes autoimmunity. Genetic factors play an important role but whether or not autoimmune disease manifests itself also depends on environmental factors, active or past infection, both viral and bacterial, parasitic as well as fungal. It can also be caused by diet or severe stress.

Types of autoimmune disease

Common symptoms of autoimmune disease

  • Fatigue that doesn’t go away after rest
  • Muscle weakness
  • Frequent colds and infections
  • Problems with memory and concentration
  • Digestive problems
  • Weight gain or weight loss
  • Irritability and mood swings

My approach

As a Nutritionist and Nutritional Therapist, when working with patients in my clinic in Harley Street, London, and online, I take a holistic approach. Rather than suppressing the symptoms, I work on finding the root cause of an autoimmune disease and restoring the balance using diet, supplements and lifestyle.

The gastrointestinal system, especially the gut, houses a significant portion of the immune system. Approximately 70% of the body’s immune cells are found in the gut-associated lymphoid tissue (GALT). This high concentration of immune cells in the gut is essential for monitoring and responding to potential threats from ingested microorganisms and antigens.

The interaction between the gut and the immune system is complex, involving a balance between protecting the body from harmful pathogens and tolerating beneficial substances.

Changes in this balance, such as disruptions in the gut microbiota or increased permeability of the intestinal lining, have been suggested to play a role in the development or exacerbation of autoimmune diseases.

My 5R Approach

REMOVE

Remove allergic/intolerant foods, parasites, bad bacteria, yeast. This may include an ‘elimination diet’ to find out what foods are causing the symptoms.

REPLACE

Replace digestive secretions, such as hydrochloric acid, digestive enzymes or bile salts, that are required for proper digestion and that may be compromised by diet, drugs, diseases, ageing, and other factors.

REINOCULATE

Populate your gut with probiotics and prebiotics.

REPAIR

Help the lining of the gut repair itself by supplying the key nutrients.

REBALANCE

Address the lifestyle factors that may affect your gut function.
