The main role of a Nutritionist is to help patients achieve optimal health through advice on food choices. A Nutritionist is an expert in nutrition, however because the title is not protected by law in the UK, anyone can call themselves a Nutritionist. For your peace of mind you should always check if your Nutritionist has appropriate training and belongs to a respectable professional body. 


Dieticians work mainly in the NHS and are regulated by the Health and Care Professions Council. Their professional body is the British Dietetic Association.

Nutritional Therapist

Similarly to a Nutritionist, the title Nutritional Therapist is not currently regulated by law in the UK. For your peace of mind, always ensure that your Nutritional Therapist is registered with the Complementary and Natural Healthcare Council (CNHC), the professional body which was set up with the government support to protect the public. CNHC Registered Nutritional Therapists undergo a high level of a three year training to be eligible for registration. As a Registered Nutritional Therapist I was trained in clinical practice in the principles of Functional Medicine, to give one-to-one personal health advice. What to expect when you see a Nutritionist

A Nutritional Therapist (Nutritionist) works with clients on one-to-one basis conducting assessments of their health, ordering and analysing laboratory testing and writing nutrition plans. Nutritional Therapist (Nutritionist) can support patients with chronic health conditions, as well as clients looking to optimize their health. Holistic in approach, Naturopathic Nutritional Therapist (Nutritionist) will seek to identify and address the root cause of the health, skin or weight issue, with a focus on looking at the whole health picture, understanding that the mind and the body are interconnected.

An initial consultation with a Nutritional Therapist (Nutritionist) normally takes about one hour. During this time the Nutritional Therapist (Nutritionist) will ask questions about the client’s condition and conventional treatment, medical history, diet ,and lifestyle. The Nutritional Therapist (Nutritionist) may also perform tongue, face and nail examination ation to get a better picture of the client’s health.
